The 12th Young Researchers Seminar will be organised by the Federal Highway Research Institute – BASt (Bundesanstalt für Straßenwesen), from June 3 to 5, 2025 in Bergisch Gladbach & Cologne, Germany.
This edition offers the opportunity to a network of young transport researchers from Members of ECTRI, FEHRL, FERSI, EURNEX, HUMANIST as well as from research organisations across the US* to gather and interact during the three-day seminar, where young researchers are able to improve their presentation skills in written and oral scientific communication by tutorial means. The tutoring at the conference is done by senior researchers, including SWOV researcher Agnieszka Stelling. The role of the tutors is to train, support, and help the young researchers to progress in their writing and communication skills.
* Since 2007, thanks to the Memorandum of Understanding between ECTRI and TRB, the participation to the Seminar is open to young researchers and tutors from the US Universities.
The seminar focuses on following research domains:
- Transport economics and policy (including labour economics)
- Transport sustainability, environment and energy
- Transport safety, travel behaviour and active mobility
- Digitalisation in transport (including ITS and traffic management)
- Transport logistics and freight
- Transport engineering (including road and railway infrastructures)

- September 30, 2024: Deadline for submission of abstracts and nomination of tutors
- December 2, 2024: Notification on abstracts review results and tutors appointment
- February 3, 2025 : Deadline for full draft paper submission
- February – June, 2025: Exchange between tutors and young researchers
- May 20: Deadline for submission of final paper
- May 27: Deadline for submission of final presentation
- June 3-5, 2025 : Holding of the YRS
