SWOV partner in AMIGOS: Active Mobility Innovations for Green and Safe Solutions

SWOV is proud to be a research partner in AMIGOS, a Horizon Europe initiative dedicated to making cities safer, greener, and more livable. As urban areas rapidly grow, addressing challenges like air pollution and traffic congestion becomes increasingly crucial.

In collaboration with residents from various European cities, we’ve identified these issues and developed promising solutions through innovative co-creation workshops. In 2024, SWOV played a vital role in collecting accident and mobility data for the participating cities. Looking ahead, we will lead the development of a tool to help cities evaluate the effectiveness of their interventions in achieving economic, social, mobility, and safety goals.

In November, AMIGOS partners convened online to exchange updates. The partner cities are now implementing their planned measures, supported by cutting-edge data collection and analysis technologies. By mid-next year, we aim to deliver the first tangible results, providing valuable insights for further application and impact. Starting in 2025, we’ll begin testing these solutions in cities such as Hamburg, Istanbul, and Reykjavik. This large-scale public experiment aims to set a model for other cities facing similar challenges.

The AMIGOS consortium brings together the perfect blend of technical and academic partners, supporting local authorities involved as Living Labs, Safety Improvement Areas, or Twin Cities in the co-design and implementation of active mobility solutions. Launched in June 2023, AMIGOS is a 4-year Innovation Action funded by the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme. AMIGOS brings together 28 partners from across Europe and beyond.
