Abstract

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN FREE SPEED OF VEHICLES AND THE GEOMETRICS OF THE ROAD, HAS BECOME AN IMPORTANT PART IN THE THEORETICAL RESEARCH INTO THE CAPACITY OF RURAL ROADS. THE PRESENT STUDY INVOLVES THE REGRESSION OF THE FREE SPEED DATA ON SURFACED HIGHWAYS WITH THE GEOMETRICS OF THE HIGHWAY. CONSIDERATION WAS GIVEN TO THE EFFECT OF ROAD GEOMETRICS ON THE 15TH, 85TH AND 97.5TH PERCENTILES AND THE MEAN FREE SPEED. (A).
