Abstract
A random sample of 1708 drivers' licences in the West-German central register are examined, representing 8% of the total number of habitual offenders in 1971. Results show that "Vielfachtäter" are six times as much involved in traffic accidents as offenders with one or two notices in the central register. Furthermore, in the mean time in between accident involvement decreased when there are more accidents registered. An educational effect of the withdrawal of the driver licence was not demonstrable.
