This chapter considers the recent advancement of ground vehicle simulator technology and the advantages it brings for road safety research. Work being carried out at the Monash University Accident Research Centre in Australia using simulators to investigate the problem of young drivers is outlined. Young drivers have been identified as a high risk group and a programme has beeen designed to identify differences in driving performance as a function of driving experience. One aspect will be an investigation of the performance of multiple tasks. The use of simulators for driver training is discussed. For the covering abstract see C 45915 (IRRD 876074).
