Abstract

The detailed design of features on buses can have a large effect on the ease and safety with which elderly and ambulant disabled people can use buses. This report reviews information that is available on these features and on operational practices that affect mobility handicapped people. Features considered include external appearance; route number and destination indicators; entrance and exit steps, handrails and lighting; internal floors and steps; gangways, stanchions and handrails; seating; bell pushes and lighting.
