Abstract

Female driver involvement in road crashes is an emerging women's health issue. In 1996, over 4000 female drivers were admitted to hospital and 213 were killed on Australian roads. For every kilometre travelled, female drivers are more likely than male drivers to be admitted to hospital as a result of a road crash. This report provides road crash statistics for female drivers and an analysis of attitudes and driving behaviours of young and middle aged females, obtained through a survey of women across Australia.
