Abstract

The quality of streetlighting can be evaluated by means of visibility and seeing comfort. We made tests in a fullscale installation which was built in such a way that the brightness of the road and the intensity of the glaring fittings could be varied independently of each other. In this installation we made both the visibility measurements and the observations on admissible glare. At different brightness levels, with and without glare, contrast sensitivity, visual acuity and visual speed were measured.
