A numerical model, called GELCRO, which simulates the development of a snow layer deposited on a road, was developed and validated with data from acomprehensive experimental field campaign. This work is conducted under the framework of a project which aims to develop a decision-making tool forroad management in winter. In order to test the model capacity in an operational approach of forecasting, simulations were done with forecasted meteorological data on an experimental site, and compared with validation andmeasurement data. The results of these forecasting tests are discussed inthis paper. They show that the model is able to forecast with good accuracy the holding of the snow on a road, and the road surface temperature evolution. For the covering abstract see ITRD E143097.
