Abstract

At the 1962 Stapp Conference, Mr. Paul C. Skeels of General Motors Proving Ground presented a paper describing a new concept in full-scale laboratory tests which simulate vehicle accidents. The device described in the paper prepared by Skeels and Raymond G. Falzon is called the Impact Sled. This device, associated equipment and instrumentation have been in use for approximately one year. The purpose of this papers is to describe the facility briefly, and give results from some of the tests for which this equipment has been used including vehicle interior design and response characteristics for simulated occupants.
