Abstract

The expense of removing wet fill regarded as unsuitable for earthworks, and replacing it by imported common fill, can form a significant part of the cost of earthwork construction. Laboratory consolidation and tri-axial tests on three cohesive soils and the use of the results to predict the behaviour of wet fill in embankments are described.
