Abstract

Based on the experiments in the laboratory about marking of trucks with passive retroflective materials for better conspicuity during night-time driving, a large scale experiment is started in the Federal Republic of Germany. About 1,000 trucks are equipped with special markings of different shapes. The accident rate of these trucks and the rate of unequipped trucks will be compared. In addition the aging and the pollution of these materials shall be investigated. The planned time of duration of tests is about two years with the aim to improve the relevant International Regulations on behalf of light signalling devices.
