Abstract

A standardized procedure for examining the effect of safety belt usage upon traffic fatalities in the U.S. is described and documented. Data and results examining seat belt usage and effectiveness are broken out by model year since at any given time, a sample of automobiles on the roads will include varying numbers of representatives of different model years, and different model years are equipped with different standard equipment.
