Abstract

A description is given of MoniVision, an advanced traffic management surveillance and monitoring system operating through a Windows-based IBM personal computer and networked through telephone line modems to provide users with an intelligent ALERT system. Closed circuit television images are digitally compressed and transmitted to the computer where live pictures of a site can be viewed alongside a historic image of an event that has triggered the system. Elements of the system are described and examples given of the type of information displayed. Developed first for queue detection with suitable action being taken by the operator, it is envisaged that automatic commands will be programmed in. Other uses are number plate recognition, vehicle height detection and fog density monitoring.
