At the VTI computerized simulation models are derived for the description of the traffic process under different road and traffic conditions. In the first stage, a model is established for light traffic, where no vehicle interactions occur and where the behaviour of road users is mainly determined by the geometric design and the speed limits of the road. In the second stage, the model is enlarged to comprise the interaction of vehicles. This work requires knowledge of overtaking procedures under different road and traffic conditions. The results can also be used for other purposes, e.g. for the establishment of road construction standards and directives. In 1968, results were obtained for passenger car overtaking. In this report overtaking by lorries with and without trailer is considered.
