AS PART OF THE JOINT BIOMECHANICAL RESEARCH PROJECT (KOB) REAL-WORLD PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENTS WERE RECONSTRUCTED IN EXPERIMENTAL SIMULATIONS WITH DUMMIES AND CADAVERS. THESE REAL ACCIDENTS WERE SELECTED OUT OF THE MATERIAL GATHERED BY ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION TEAMS IN FRANCE, ENGLAND, AND GERMANY. SELECTION WAS BASED UPON CRITERIA LIKE FREQUENCY OF ACCIDENT TYPE, SEVERITY OF INJURIES AND REPRODUCIBILITY. IN SPITE OF IDENTICAL PARAMETERS OF VEHICLE AND COLLISION REPRESENTATION OF THE REAL ACCIDENT WAS DIFFERENT IN DUMMY AND CADAVER TESTS. DIFFERENT IMPACT DYNAMICS IN THE BODIES OF DUMMY AND CADAVER GAVE VARIOUS POINTS OF IMPACT ON THE CAR. HAVING REGARD TO THESE RESTRICTIONS, MEASURES FROM DUMMY TESTS AS WELL AS MEASURES AND "INJURIES" FROM CADAVER TESTS WILL BE CORRELATED WITH THE PEDESTRIAN'S INJURIES; HUMAN TOLERANCE UNDER THESE IMPACT CONDITIONS WILL BE ESTABLISHED AFTER COMPLETION OF THE RESEARCH PROGRAM.
