Abstract

Scientifically designed lighting facilities are essential in the interests of road safety and it is therefore unfortunate that progress in lighting techniques has been less evident for roads than in other spheres, such as offices and factories. This Research Note points out that instead of specifying lighting according to the intensity of the illuminating source, as is commonly the case, greater attention should be paid to luminosity and, in consequence, to the reflecting power of the pavement surface.
