Abstract

This report is the outcome of a study of the literature dealing with the problem of vehicle skidding, with particular reference to the skid resistance of pavement surfaces. The text is divided in the following sections: 1- Basic concepts of road frictions. 2- Methods of measurements. 3- Interpretation of skid resistance measurements. 4- Relevant road factors. 5- Relevant vehicle factors. 6- Preventive measures.
