Abstract

In Germany a program for traffic control on federal motorways has alreadybeen set up 1970. Due to the extremely sharp traffic increase since the mid-1980s and the proven positive effects of traffic control systems this program has been actualised and prolonged several times. The Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs updated for the last time 2002the existing program and extended its duration until 2007. Experience hasshown that the use of such systems results in a significant reduction in the number of accidents. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
