Abstract

This paper aims to analyse how accessibility is defined and suggests ways of categorising such definitions to avoid confusion about their purpose. Accessibility has an important role to play in transport, urban and regional planning. There is a need to categorise accessibility to allow for ease and effective use of accessibility for the various issues confronting planners. The three categories proposed by this paper are Accessibility Indicators, Accessibility Measures and Representations of Accessibility.
