The symposium "Senior citizens on the road : promoting safety and mobility", was held in Bonn, 5-7 October 1993, organized by the Federal Ministry of Families and Senior Citizens, the Federal Ministry of Transport and the German Traffic Safety Council (DVR). The symposium was held as a contribution to the "European Year of the Elderly and of Solidarity between Generations". In lectures, the problems of the mobility and the safety of elderly people were examined from the perspective of different disciplines and based on the experiences in different European countries. In five working groups, declarations and recommendations for the improvement of the road safety of elderly people and the maintenance of their chances of mobility were developed. (Author/publisher)
