Für die Modellierung von Radrouten ist die Entfernung der am häufigsten verwendete Faktor. Tatsächlich sind aber viele andere Parameter wie hügeliges Gelände, die Beschaffenheit der Strassenoberfläche oder viele erzwungene Stopps genauso wichtig. Sie können dann berücksichtigt werden, wenn der Energieverbrauch des Radfahrers gemessen wird. Dafür wurde vom führenden franzoesischen Fahrradhersteller MAVIC eine Radnabe entwickelt. Diese Methode, die sich auf die verbrauchte Energie und nicht auf die Länge der Fahrt konzentriert, kann Verkehrsplanern helfen, das Verhalten der Radfahrer zu verstehen. (A)
