Samenvatting

In this paper the entropy maximising method, or more appropriately, information minimising method is critically reviewed. The assumptions and approximations used in this method are reviewed critically and some limitations to its accuracy are indicated. The method is applied in three examples: the trip distribution model, the estimation of turning flows at an intersection and the estimation of a trip matrix from traffic volume counts.
