Samenvatting

Methods of measuring the nuisance value of road traffic noise are discussed, thereby using terms as annoyance, dissatisfaction, loudness, etc., when measuring the psychological effects of noise. It is proposed that the overall subjective effect of noise may be a combination of these and other factors This would account for the unsuccessful attempts of most previous work to find a high correlation between an individual score on a psychological scale and physical noise measurements. A methodology for finding high correlation's is suggested in a plan of research to be conducted at Longhborough University.
