Samenvatting

The purpose of this investigation was to establish vehicular and pedestrian volume warrants for use as a guide when considering applications for the installation of pedestrian crossings. The problem is, therefore, to establish upper and lower warrants for the installation of pedestrian crossings. As a result of the study, a series of curves has been produced, showing the types of treatment required at pedestrian crossings for various values of the gap between successive vehicles necessary to allow pedestrians to safety cross a roadway. Average conditions require a gap of about 12 seconds.
