Samenvatting

The capability of a motorist to detect typical highway vision targets at night in the light from varied combinations of fixed, overhead luminaires and single and opposing vehicle headlights was studied in a simulated two- lane highway environment. Fixed lighting more than doubled the target detection distances attainable with vehicle headlights alone, but detection distances were reduced in direct relation to the glare intensity of opposing headlights.
