Abstract

In August 1999, the American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing (ASPRS) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Commercial Remote Sensing Program entered into a 5-year Space Act Agreement to combine resources and expertise for: baselining the remote sensing industry (RSI); developing a 10-year RSI market forecast; providing improved information for decision makers; and developing attendant processes. This paper summarizes the Phase I (Characterization and Baseline Forecast of the Industry) and Phase II (Characterization of Customers/Users and Determination of Their Needs/Requirements) survey results. Phase III (Validating Phases I and II), will include a technology assessment and will be completed in December 2003. Phase IV (Market Forecast) will be completed in December 2004.
