Abstract

Analysis of nighttime vehicle accidents in Polk County, Iowa, indicates a positive relationship between reflective license plates and accident reduction. In 1959 60.1% of all vehicles had reflective plates. Considering only nighttime rear-end collisons involving cars with non-reflective plates was 76.7%. The savings with all plates reflectorized are discussed.
