Abstract

The report of 1971 discloses that in the 12-month period there were 711 incidents reported by property carriers involving fire. This was 1.29 per cent of the 55,158 accident reports submitted by this class of carriers during the year. However, this small percentage resulted in 140 fatalities, 311 injuries, and property damage totaling almost $9 million. The reporting requirement includes all vehicles involved in fires, not only those caused by collision.
