Abstract

This report contains the results of the fourth annual Regular Common Carrier Conference (RCCC) Motor Carrier Safety Survey. The survey, conducted in September 1989, included 1,285 interviews with long-haul tractor-trailer drivers from the United States and Canada. The principal issues addressed are as follows: drug testing; accidents and moving violations; driver fatigue; cruising speeds and compliance behavior; driver training; Commercial Drivers License tests; driver shortage; roadside inspections; congestion; and acceptance and usage of monitoring and safety devices (onboard computer, tachograph, radar detector, seat belts) (As of 1993, this report is out of print.)
