Abstract

This paper gives an overview on the development of the Windhoek (Namibia) arterial road network over the past 30 years. Several transportation studies were done to establish a priority programme for the construction of new arterial roads. The success of these studies, as a scientific planning tool, to solve traffic problems on a pro-active basis is highlighted. The outcome of the findings of a transportation study is as good as the input data such as the socioeconomic data, population growth, changes in town planning policies and predicted trends in development patterns. (A) The French title of the paper is: "Amélioration de l'étude sur le réseau des transports de l'agglomération de Windhoek (1993)".
