This Note is identical to the five papers written and presented by the authors at the Third International Conference on Bearing Capacity of Roads and Airfields, held in Trondheim July 3-5, 1990. The Conference provided a platform for the presentation of research results and new developments. The Road Directorate, Danish Road Institute, participated actively in the conference and one result was the present papers covering a wide variety of items within the scope of the conference.
