This study is an attempt to link the Optimal Highway Path Automatic Search System (OHPASS), and three-dimensional (3D) computer aided design (CAD) by including attributes such as terrain, geological features, and environments within extended digital mapping (DM) data. In addition, the authors have constructed a system that links with 3D CAD and enables output 3D datato be viewed and evaluated as a virtual reality (VR) model. In linking with 3D VR, the system can be used for road alignment and landscape planningand evaluation, intelligent transportation (ITS), and for presenting project proposals to a wider audience at explanatory meetings.
