Abstract

On 21 August 1997, the NSW Government announced a trial of 560 kilometre per hour (km/h) speed limit on residential streets in a range of local government areas. Signs indicating the 50 km/h limit were erected throughout trial precincts and painted on the road to inform drivers of the changes and the new limit. A publicity campaign was implemented to create awareness and understanding of the trial. The trial evaluated community opinion on a 50 km/h urban speed limit. (A)
