Abstract

This report gives the results for 1968 of the automatic traffic census which has been in progress since January 1956, at 50 points on the trunk and classified roads of Great Britain. Results of manual censuses at these and other points on all classes of road are also given. Motor traffic on all roads in 1968 is estimated to have been 5 per cent higher than in 1967, 70 per cent higher than in 1960 and 136 per cent higher than in 1956. In 1968 travel on motorways represented 4 per cent of the travel on all roads.
