Abstract

Enforcement of the 55 mph speed limit is the responsibility of state and local authorities. Action by State Governors, legislative bodies, law enforcement agencies, highway safety agencies, and judicial systems if gundamental to success in saving fuel and lives. This paper describes NHTSA's efforts to support and assist in the notional effort to achieve full compliance with the 55 mph speed limit.
