Abstract

During the period from September 1978 to March 1981 the Connecticut State Police Department participated in a demonstration project to determine the relationship between patrol level and motorists’ compliance with the speed limit. The results of the study indicated that increased enforcement significantly reduced the proportion of motorists exceeding 60 mph., that more arrests per trooper were made during the increased enforcement deployments, and that fine revenues more than offset the costs of the increased patrols.
