Abstract
The evaluation of the effect of the 60 m.p.h. general speed limit on a) vehicle speeds, b) traffic accidents and casualties. The degree of enforcement is examined and some comparisons are made with other countries. Information is also given of the extent and type of publicity campaigns conducted before and shortly after the introduction of the limit.
