Abstract

During 1979 statistics became available on the length of roads and cycle paths per municipality. A relation was sought between this data and the results of interviews among some 2500 people in 1976. Questions had been asked on bicycle usage. There seems to be no direct relation between the quantity of cycle paths and the use of bicycles. There is a minor relation as far as home-to-work trips are concerned. We may not expect that providing more cycle paths will lead to more cycle trips, but it may reduce the cyclists'feeling of unsafety and discomfort.
