Abstract

The specifications used to describe the quality of asphalt concrete mixes or asphalt concrete mixing techniques are based on current usage. However, for a variety of reasons, alterations do occur, examples of such changes in usage include: a) the meaning of the term quality; and b) changes in either the mix composition or in the mixing techniques. In this paper a procedure is discussed and proposed to augment the quality of the checks which are needed as a consequence of these alterations. The proposed procedure include laboratory measurements and semi practical tests. This technique can be made both shorter and more effective by using the knowledge which has been built up over the last decade and appropriate statistical techniques. It is suggested that administration should be effected in order to enable the speedy application of any alterations to standard procedures that have passed the test procedure described here.
