Abstract

TEOR is the East-West BRT system serving Greater Rouen, in France. It hasbeen in operation for more than 5 years and is run by VEOLIA Transport with optically guided buses. It enables "level boarding" type stops, contributing to accessibility and comfort, and short dwell times. This provides aquality of service close to that found with heavier forms of transport, at a total investment cost that is five times lower, and excellent responsiveness at traffic levels of up to 3,500 passengers/hour/direction. The Greater Rouen Community is extending the lines and its fleet of guided vehicles. TEOR is a successful example of a bus system with a high level of service, a concept that is spreading throughout Europe and the rest of the world. Current developments are also presented.
