Abstract
Accident analyses were conducted for 79 construction projects in 7 states. Results indicate an overall increase in the accident rate of 6.8%. Examination of accident rate differentials reveals that 31% of the projects experienced decreased accident rates during construction and that 24% of the projects experienced rate increases of 50% or more. Case study analyses of 3 projects with rate increases of 40% or more indicate that construction-related accidents were responsible for the accident rate increases.
