Abstract

The first person on the scene of a road crash is usually a member of the public who has no formal medical or paramedical training. It is clear that there are a number of post road accident fatalities and serious injuries which could have been prevented by the rapid application of first aid. However, due to insufficient evidence the possible benefits of enhanced first aid at accidents in terms of casualty reduction cannot be quantified at this stage.
