Accident or design? : The Netherland Engineers' Approach.

Abstract

Developments made in road safety over the last decade in the Netherlands, the general approach, the role of the engineer and future policies and developments are reviewed. Three areas in the Netherlands approach, which differ to a great extent from those in the U.K. are considered. (1) the Woonerf, (2) cycle facilities and (3) motorway signalling and control systems.
