Abstract

A summary of current and anticipated transit systems in areas such as New York, Philadelphia, Boston, Chicago and San Francisco is given for background. Then the roles of the passenger, transit authorities, manufacturers, government and public in enhancing the safety of these systems is postulated. Within this framework the author's approach to conducting an effective yet practical application of system safety in car building is described.
