This manual deals with safety in industry, a subject of particulary direct interest to workers, for it concerns the preservation of life and limb. It does not purport to deal comprehensively with the subject of occupational safety, the vastness and complexity of which are attested by the number of voluminous works written on each of its various aspects, such as safety in coal mining. in factories, in building and civil engeneering, in agriculture, in forestry, in dock work, in the use of electricity, in the use of and maintenance of elevators or boilers, and other specialised subjects.
