Abstract

Estimates of potential accident reduction factors which can reasonably be attained from a wide range of highway safety improvements are given. Eight sets of accident reduction factors tabled and related to the following situations are presented 1. perception of intersection conditions 2. traffic conflicts 3. perception of geometric conditions 4. lane and shoulder characteristics. 5. pavement friction 6. roadside facilities 7. geometric alignment deficiencies and 8. railway-highway conflicts.
