This is the third report in a series commissioned from Cambridgeshire County Council (for first report see IRRD 865275 (see C 8575) for second report see IRRD 882643 (see C 12167). This report examines the nature of traffic accidents on two lane dual carriageway `A' class roads. The period of study covers 1988-1995, and is based on a driver questionnaire survey. Statistical models were used in order to examine the interaction between STATS 19, questionnaire and environment variables, and to isolate those significant factors associated with accidents. The implications of the findings are discussed and remedial measures suggested. These suggestions include discussion based on possible changes in traffic engineering, design standards, enforcement and driver education practices.
