Abstract

A study of accident levels on two main routes in Scotland totalling 183 kilometers comprising both single track and two lane sections is made. The accident risk on single track roads is of a very much higher magnitude than on two lane roads of a reasonable standard. Funds spent on current road improvements will produce a high return in saving in road casualties over the life of the improved road.
