Abstract

A speculation is given about the position of public transport in the year 2010, assuming that there will effectively be eight million cars in the Netherlands in that year. It starts by looking at the car ownership forecasts that were made in the past . A better balance between costs and revenues is thought to be the most important condition if public transport is to fulfil its role in the face of such levels of car ownership.
